Event Description
Plenty of writers are already using AI in some form – drafting a first pass, tightening a paragraph, generating options – often quietly, and often without knowing whether the person next to them is doing the same.
It's changing how articles, newsletters, press releases and even books get written, and the media industry hasn't settled on where the boundaries should be.
This coming Monday, we've brought together four people who see this issue from different perspectives – a writer, a novelist, an FT journalist covering AI, and someone whose job is to help organisations work with AI.
There'll be a pay bar open before and after the discussion, so plenty of time to keep the conversation going with fellow attendees.
On the Panel:
Babita Sharma (Chair) has spent more than 20 years as a presenter and broadcaster with the BBC, and has hosted the World AI Summit for the past five years. She's the author of The Corner Shop and The Adventures of Priya Mistry, with a new book on India's partition out in July 2027.
Keiran Goddard is a novelist, poet, screenwriter and social theorist. His debut novel Hourglass was listed for the Desmond Elliott Prize, and his second, I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, has been adapted into a feature film. His third, Fill the World, is out later this year.
Madhumita Murgia is the Financial Times' AI Editor, covering AI, surveillance and data privacy globally. Her book Code Dependent was shortlisted for the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction in 2024 and has been translated into eight languages.
Katie McPhee founded Expanded Future, which helps organisations adopt AI, and is The Conduit's AI for Good Expert in Residence. She's held leadership roles at the BBC, Eventbrite and VEED, and in 2023 co-founded Earth AI, the first climate/AI hackathon series.
