There are still tickets available for our in-person event (with networking drinks) next week at Covent Garden's exclusive Conduit Club. It's from 6pm on Tuesday 20th May.
We'll have a discussion panel about The Future of X (formerly Twitter) and Social Media, followed by a pay bar in the lounge area outside the meeting room. It's a fascinating and timely topic, and a great way of meeting and making media contacts.
This event is in partnership with The Conduit Club.
Ticket Prices... General: £20. Students: £10. Media Society Members: £10 (50% discount). Student Members: Free. Join the Media Society here.
Event Description
Social media is a crucial part of the current media world - and X (formerly Twitter) has been an absolutely key part of the new media order.
But is it right that such an important feature of modern discourse should be owned by a billionaire with a political mission? Should media organisations stay on X to keep in touch with their supporters, or leave what many believe has become a toxic and polarised platform? And how will social media in general evolve over the coming years?
In partnership with The Conduit in Covent Garden, this is a highly topical conversation about Elon Musk and the future of X and Social Media.
Our Panel:
- Sophie Long (Chair) - former BBC News presenter and former BBC LA correspondent.
- Carl Miller - the co-founder of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media (CASM) at Demos, and an expert on social media.
- Madeleine Sugden - a digital content specialist with over 20 years of experience in charity communications. She has recently written about X and Bluesky.
- Ian Dunt - author, political journalist and broadcaster, who currently writes a column for the i Paper. His podcast, Origin Story, has just left X, and he has written about Elon Musk and social media.
The event will be introduced by the President of the Media Society, Nigel Dacre.
Doors open at 6pm on Tuesday 20th May. Discussion starts at 6.30pm. Pay bar before and after the discussion.
The Media Society is a British charity that organises events that discuss and debate important and topical media issues.
