Event Description

Love it or hate it, X (formerly Twitter) has changed – some call it a bold frontier for free speech, others say it has turned toxic. But it remains influential. For media organisations, charities and social enterprises the dilemma is real.

Stick around and try to cut through the noise, or jump ship to other platforms? Are there any good alternatives? And how do organisations balance their views with the need to actually reach people?

In partnership with The Conduit in Covent Garden, this is a timely conversation about Elon Musk and the future of X and Social Media.

Our Panel:

  • Sophie Long (Chair) - former BBC News presenter and former BBC LA correspondent.
  • Carl Miller - the co-founder of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media (CASM) at Demos, and an expert on social media.
  • Madeleine Sugden - a digital content specialist with over 20 years of experience in charity communications. She has recently written about X and Bluesky.
  • Ian Dunt - author, political journalist and broadcaster, who currently writes a column for the i Paper. His company, Origin Story, has just left X, and he has written about Elon Musk and social media.

The event will be introduced by the President of the Media Society, Nigel Dacre.

Doors open at 6pm on Tuesday 20th May. Discussion starts at 6.30pm. Pay bar before and after the discussion.
