Please join us next Tuesday evening for an urgent Media Society panel debate via Zoom examining how British journalists view the complexities of covering the Israel/Gaza conflict.
The discussion event is at 6pm online on Tuesday 14th October.
Event Description
The conflict is back in the headlines this week with the peace talks in Egypt, and the possibility of the release of hostages. The Manchester synagogue killings last week have added extra saliency to the topic.
Two years after the October 7th attack and the start of the war, our panel of senior British journalists will explore critical aspects of media coverage of the conflict, including Israel's restrictions on international press access, the unprecedented risks facing Palestinian journalists and camera crews, language choices in reporting the conflict, and the challenges facing journalists covering the new developments in the story, such as the possible ceasefire.
The panel, so far, includes:
- Gavin Esler, the former BBC Newsnight presenter (who will chair the event)
- John Ray, the ITV international correspondent and former Middle East Correspondent
- Elena Cosentino, Director of the International News Safety Institute (INSI)
- Richard Burgess, the Director of BBC News Content.
The event will be introduced by the Media Society President Nigel Dacre.
