This is an exclusive email for Media Society members. It's a very busy time for the Society, so we wanted to bring members up-to-date with the latest news.

Events coming up:

  2. Media Society on Tour: Friday 14th November at 5pm. Our President Nigel Dacre will chair a panel discussion at Durham University about the future of journalism with the Times Columnist Sebastian Payne and the ITV News Presenter Lucy Watson. Tickets here.
  3. Review of the Year and AGM: Tuesday 25th November. 6pm. All members are welcome to attend. The meeting will include a presentation on what the Society has achieved in 2025 and its plans for the future. Drinks after the formal part of the meeting. Venue: Reed Smith, Blossom Yard, E1 6RS. Invitations will be sent out later this week via email.
  4. Media Society Festive Drinks: Monday 8th December. 6.30pm. Organised with the Journalists’ Charity. Music from the jazz band Bossa Rio. Venue: The October Gallery, near Holborn. All members are welcome. Tickets £12.50 for Media Society members and their guests. Buy tickets here. This will be a great opportunity to network and enjoy some festive cheer with friends, colleagues and contacts in the journalism and media industry. Ticket numbers are limited - and we strongly advise members to book early.

With the Festive Drinks, it means that we will have had 10 events this year... covering the year's key media issues. You can see the full 2025 schedule plus video links here.

Other News

Media Society Ambassador: We are pleased to announce that Ritula Shah (ex-presenter of the BBC R4 flagship ‘The World Tonight’ and now at Classic FM) has agreed to become our first official Media Society Ambassador. She'll continue to chair some of our discussion events next year, be one of our podcast interviewers, and join us at other Media Society events.

Media Society Substack: We have just launched the Media Society Substack - to provide a platform for articles about important media issues. We will have an archive of the articles on the Substack platform, and selected articles will be sent out to members via email. We very much hope that you will see this as a useful member benefit - but you can unsubscribe from the Substack at any time, and still remain a member of the Media Society. Do contact us if you'd like to write an article for our new venture.
