Our next event is an in-person discussion event about the Media and Climate Change at the Conduit Club in Covent Garden from 6pm on Thursday 26th June. We have an expert panel, and there'll be plenty of time for questions. The ticket price includes a free welcome drink, and the event is followed by networking drinks with a pay bar.

Ticket numbers are limited, so we are sending out this members-only email, so you can book a ticket before we start marketing the event to non-members.

As a TMS member, you will also get a 50% discount on the ticket price.

Event Description

How is the media covering climate change and climate issues? Many argue that there should be more climate stories in newspapers, news websites and broadcast news, and that climate news should be higher up the media agenda. But is that fair criticism? Is the problem more that readers and audiences are less interested in climate news than other news topics?

In partnership with The Conduit in Covent Garden, this event brings together key voices to unpack the complex relationship between climate and the media. We’ll explore why some major outlets have cut back on dedicated climate reporting, and how misinformation thrives.

Our Panel to discuss these questions:

  • Sue Saville (Chair) - conference and webinar moderator, media trainer and former ITV News correspondent.
  • Graihagh Jackson - presenter of The Climate Question, BBC World Service.
  • Giles Trendle - former Managing Editor Al-Jazeera and Co-Chair of Covering Climate Now, an alliance of international media collaborating to improve climate coverage.
  • Simon Evans - Senior Policy Editor, Carbon Brief, a UK-based website monitoring the latest developments in climate science, energy policy and media coverage.

Doors open at 6pm on Thursday 26th June. Discussion starts at 6.30pm. Free welcome drink. Pay bar after the discussion for networking.

Ticket prices range from £10 for Media Society Members to £20 for non-members. Free admission for Media Society Student Members.
