This is an exclusive email update for Media Society members.

Our next event is an in-person discussion event about the Future of X at The Conduit Club in Covent Garden from 6pm on Tuesday 20th May. We have a high-profile panel. There'll be plenty of opportunities for the audience to make points and ask questions. And the event is followed by networking drinks with a pay bar.

Ticket numbers are limited, so we are sending out this members-only email, so you can book a ticket before we start marketing the event to non-members.

As a TMS member, you will also get a 50% discount on the ticket price.

Event Description

Love it or hate it, X (formerly Twitter) has changed – some call it a bold frontier for free speech, others say it has turned toxic. But it remains influential. For media organisations, charities and social enterprises the dilemma is real.

Stick around and try to cut through the noise, or jump ship to other platforms? Are there any good alternatives? And how do organisations balance their views with the need to actually reach people?

In partnership with The Conduit in Covent Garden, this is a timely conversation about Elon Musk and the future of X and social media.

Our Panel:

  • Sophie Long (Chair) - former BBC News presenter and former BBC LA correspondent.
  • Carl Miller - the co-founder of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media (CASM) at Demos, and an expert on social media.
  • Madeleine Sugden - a digital content specialist with over 20 years of experience in charity communications. She has recently written about X and Bluesky.
  • Ian Dunt - author, political journalist and broadcaster, who currently writes a column for the i Paper. He was previously Editor of politics.co.uk. His company, Origin Story, has just left X, and he has written about Elon Musk and social media.

Doors open at 6pm on Tuesday 20th May. Discussion starts at 6.30pm. Pay bar before and after the discussion for networking.

Ticket prices range from £10 for Media Society Members to £20 for non-members. Free admission for Media Society Student Members.
